Andreas Wargenbrant

Andreas Wargenbrant is primarily known for sculptural works in bronze and marble. An autodidact, he has long positioned himself outside formal academic and institutional frameworks, working in a postmodern tradition that investigates sculpture’s origins and cultural meaning.

With clear associations to the iconic Swedish wooden horse, Wargenbrant questions one of the nation’s most beloved symbols—inviting viewers to reconsider what we collectively perceive as “Swedish.” In his Holes series, he examines the genealogy of sculpture itself, probing how contemporary form is often shaped by the formalities of modernism.

Across his body of work, Wargenbrant presents a meta-critique of inherited ideals—challenging historic and geographic notions of beauty through objects that feel both familiar and quietly disruptive.
