John Lark

John Lark (b. 1982, Lansing, Michigan) is a Professor of Visual Art at Palm Beach State College and was the Artist in Residence at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, from 2022 to 2024. His work explores interpersonal relationships and the dynamic connections between individuals and their environments. The figures and environments examine interactions marked by both harmony and discord, intimacy and distance, reflecting an investigation of relationships, societal dynamics, and the ongoing dialogue between mind and body. Each piece begins with shape and color, then evolves through layered combinations of images that build the composition. This process of revealing and obscuring echoes the way past experiences accumulate, interrupt, and shape us as individuals and communities.

Lark earned his MFA from the New York Academy of Art and his BFA from the University of Michigan, with additional studies at Columbia University. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in New York City and along the East Coast of the United States.
